In
2006, several members of Liberty Hill United
Methodist Church were inspired to begin an
outreach based on a successful back-to-school
program for single parent families at an Austell
church. They wanted to start a similar ministry
in Cherokee, offering local students every
possible advantage as they began the new school
year. Here's how God has been at work in this
outreach.
* 2006: 100
children served by three churches.
* 2007: 1,000 children served by a coalition of
21 churches, nonprofits and civic organizations.
GAKAC worked with MUST Ministries to be the
agency's backpack distribution point.
* 2008: 1,500-plus children served in two
locations by approximately 600 volunteers and
more than 30 churches, nonprofits and civic
organizations. Children were able to get
immunizations at our North Cherokee location.
We anticipate 2009 to be the biggest event yet!
We have incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit
organization. Close to 40 partners are on board
to serve as many as 2,000 children. We'll be
able to offer immunizations at both locations,
and we may have a mobile dental office
available for our guests with critical dental
needs.
Each year we've found that God continues to
bless our ministry, opening new doors and
surrounding us with more folks interested in
helping those in need. Won't you join us?
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me,
and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of
heaven belongs to such as these."
Matthew 19:14
